Dare to Learn Something New Today!

We learn something all the time – at our jobs, by reading newspapers and magazines, watching TV, and just absorbing what is going on around us. But when was the last time you learned something that you were curious about, that really peaked your interest and that had nothing to do with what you usually do in the course of your day?

Dare to learn something new today!

Read an article from a section in the newspaper that you ordinarily would skip. Look up an unfamiliar word in the dictionary instead of just glancing over it. (This can have some unexpectedly useful consequences: If your boss has selachophobia you could shine as the office star when you reject a boating trip as the next company retreat.) Memorize the capital of a foreign country. Learn how to spell Mississippi (or hippopotamus, or onomatopoeia, or supercalafragalisticexpealodocious.) Figure out how to tie a knot out a cherry stem with your tongue. Try out a new Pilates move.

It really doesn't matter at all what you choose to learn, as long as it's something you're curious about. Have some fun, invigorate your brain, and hey, you might get addicted and start learning new stuff more often than once a day!

(Oh, and selachophobia means fear of sharks.)

Fun learning resources:

Schott's Original Miscellany is a great little book filled with all sorts of random and curious facts.
